Quick review of last weekend:
We’ve spent our birthday weekend in the picturesque UNESCO heritage city Bergen and enjoyed it a lot. After the “Norway in a Nutshell-Tour” we finally reached our final destination for that day, subsequently having passed Myrdal, Gudvangen, Voss. It was an almost 7 hour ride by train, ferry and bus where we had wonderful views of mountains, frozen waterfalls, coloured fishermen houses and just experienced the silence of the nature by having stops at certain places.
I suggest to do the tour once again in the summer time, when Norway turns out to be a green paradise and the waterfalls are just running.
Having arrived at Bergen main station, we got to Hotel Grand Terminus where I booked us a double room 2 days before. I got a very good rate and to our surprise we were situated in a historic building that seemed unimpressive from the outer fassade.
The tour is recommended to everyone who travels to Norway and has only a limited time frame. It represents one of the most impressive tracks of Scandinavia and could also be extended and individually organized when you’re not on time pressure. It is good to have a change in transport means, therefore the 7 hours ride seems not that hard and long to overcome.
Bergen is just wonderful, I love the city which is surrounded by 7 montains and fjords. Definitely a city of character!
Must see: take the Floienbanen up the mountain and enjoy the beautiful view of Bergen, the Fish market from Mondays-Saturdays, where you have a huge variety of fresh fish for direct consumption, the harbour promenade at Bryggen and try the small, but cosy cafe Pingvinen where you can order deli fresh food of the day.
